Louella (Flowers) Stewart

Dermott, AR

OBITUARY

Funeral Services for MRS. LOUELLA STEWART, age 91, of Dermott, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2021. Service will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 1109 North School Street, Dermott, Rev. Ricky Lattimore, Pastor; Pastor Tommy Smith and Pastor Chris Cook officiating.

Mrs. Stewart was born January 9th, 1930 in Dermott, Arkansas. She was one of three children born to the late Mary Lamar. She had two brothers, James Coulter and Johnnie Flowers, both of whom preceded her in death.

Louella accepted the Lord at a very young age and was baptized. She served faithfully in churches in the Dermott area and attended Chicot County public schools where she graduated high school at the top of her class. Some years later, she moved to Chicago, Illinois and, as a big believer in education, she continued her studies at Woodrow Wilson Community College, later renamed Kennedy-King College.

Also, while living in Chicago, Louella met Louis Robert McEwing. The two were married with four children resulting from this union; the oldest of whom (Robert Louis McEwing) preceded her in death.

She also became very active in Chicago-area churches, eventually joining Divine Intelligence MB Church where she served as Secretary. A wonderful soloist, she was known for her rousing renditions of "What Is This", Jesus Be A Fence", "Sit At His Feet And Be Blessed", and "Redeemed" among other spiritually uplifting songs.

After working for the US Postal Service for decades, she retired and moved back to Dermott with her then husband, Evan (Buck) Spaulding, to whom she remained married until his death. She later married Mike Stewart who also preceded her in death.

Louella was a dedicated spiritual warrior who prayed without ceasing. Her faith in Jesus Christ was steadfast and unwavering and she proclaimed the Gospel loudly and unabashedly wherever she went. She was a faithful member of Life of Faith Fellowship, McGehee, AR, under the leadership of Pastor Tommy and Jane Smith and also worked with New Life Assembly of God, Pastor Chris and Amanda Cook.

Louella was also very active in her community, working with the Foster Grandparent Program, organizer and faithful attender of the Dermott Community Prayer Group, and providing caretaking duties for the homebound in the area. She loved to attend church, camp meetings, revivals, and retreats every opportunity she had to do so.

She departed this life for her heavenly home Sunday, April 18th, 2021, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center at the age of 91. She is survived by her three children, Deborah Gray of Chicago, IL, Tony McEwing of Los Angeles, CA and Annette McGhee of Dermott as well as a host of grandchilden, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. While we celebrate her life and her homegoing, her big heart and loving presence will be greatly missed.

I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith.
Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness
which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award me on that day
and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing
