Betty was born November 3, 1950 in Dermott, Arkansas to the late Dave Richards and Mattie Lee Tate Richards who preceded her in death. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Hurds Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A. D .Ford.

As a child, Betty was known for her infectious personality which attracted many friends. Betty had a keen sense for fashion which translated into her always looking her very best; no matter what she was doing. She would often say "If you look good, then you feel good".

She attended school in the Dermott School District, graduating from Chicot County High School with the class of 1969. After graduating from high school, she and her high school sweetheart, Alvin Hackett, united in marriage and moved to Chicago to start a new chapter in life. Shortly after the move, Betty gave birth to her one and only son, Alvin Hackett Jr. As time progressed, the two separated and eventually divorced. She continued her education by enrolling in the Central YMCA Community College. In 1973, she completed her course of study and graduated with an Associate Degree in Administration & Management. After several years of working in this profession, she began to yearn for happiness and a life surrounded by family. This yearning prompted her to return home to Dermott Shortly after returning home, she met Leroy Jiles and the two were married for several years before Leroy went home to be with the Lord.

As time progressed, Betty continued to pursue life and all it had to offer until she succumbed to her medical afflictions and transitioned on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
